The Natowan General Assembly has passed the Diplomatic Protection Act of 2026 in a decisive 12–1 vote, advancing the legislation to the Senate for further consideration. The act, introduced under President Gavin Norberg’s administration, is designed to establish stricter standards for Natowa’s diplomatic relations with other micronations. If enacted, Natowa would be able to decline diplomatic applications from micronations determined to be unserious and place certain micronations on a diplomatic blacklist, preventing them from becoming official allies of Natowa. The legislation would also require a review of Natowa’s existing micronational allies. Under the proposed system, some current allies could face restrictions or lose diplomatic recognition if they no longer meet Natowa’s standards. Micronations placed on the diplomatic blacklist would be unable to submit a successful alliance application. Natowa’s diplomatic system would instead display a notice stating: “This micronation is on the diplomatic blacklist… See why.” With approval from the General Assembly secured by a 12–1 vote, the Diplomatic Protection Act will now proceed to the Natowan Senate. If approved there, it will move to the next stage of Natowa’s legislative process. The Senate’s decision will determine whether the new diplomatic standards move closer to taking effect.
